Support and training for professionals...

Writer's picture: James HarrisJames Harris

Two distinct strands of work have emerged over the last 12 months of the Finding Common Ground project.

The core advice service for parents and carers has had exceptional feedback, runs for free and has helped around 100 families over the last year or so. A successful model of support to give agency, control and knowledge to parents and carers has emerged and appears to work really well.

The second strand is the training and support for professionals working at the interface of schools and families. Schools and trusts are interested in training their staff to work more effectively with families. This ranges from working with large groups around the basic principles and approaches to detailed work with small groups to individual casework support for headteachers and other senior staff. This work has extended to other agencies - for example those involved in supporting families of adopted children - giving them the tools and knowledge to work constructively and productively with schools and families.

As this second strand grows it has become necessary to put it on a more formal footing - so there is now a page on the website devoted to the training offer. Please get in touch (james@findingcommonground.org.uk) if you would like to discuss the possibilities for collaboration or support.
